Skills and training for the AUKUS Nuclear Powered Submarine (NPS) Program and defence
Conceicao Consulting was engaged by Jobs and Skills Australia to undertake a project to understand the readiness and capacity of TAFEs to support the workforce, training and skills supply for the AUKUS nuclear-powered submarine (NPS) project.
We executed a multi-phase approach that included a comprehensive desktop literature review of defence and skills publications and workforce strategies, stakeholder consultations with state and Commonwealth Government agencies, and met with TAFEs right across the country to understand their strategic planning process, priority industries, how they support emerging skills needs such as AUKUS, and their involvement in support the defence supply chain and defence projects.
This methodical approach, leveraging quantitative and qualitative analysis and stakeholder engagement, allowed for a thorough assessment of current offerings and future capacity to meet the anticipated demands of the submarine programme and broader defence industry.
Throughout the project, we demonstrated strong analytical expertise by assessing the alignment between TAFE capabilities and projected workforce needs, identifying challenges, and uncovering opportunities for TAFEs to support the development of workers with relevant, buildable and transferrable skills.
Conceicao Consulting's communication and stakeholder management skills were paramount to the project's success, facilitating effective engagement with diverse stakeholders and preparing comprehensive reports for Jobs and Skills Australia, government stakeholders, and other key parties.
By successfully delivering this nationally significant initiative, Conceicao Consulting demonstrated its capability to handle complex projects requiring a deep understanding of the vocational education sector, defence industry needs, and government policy objectives, ultimately contributing to Australia's readiness to support a major defence initiative through its vocational education sector.
